Help with Air Force General Officers Hat

    Hello All,
I was looking at a recent tread on DDR general officer’s caps and decided to post one I recently acquired. I primarily collect helmets, but also collect aviation items from all era’s. My knowledge is somewhat limited regarding DDR items. I bought this hat along with some other DDR Air Force items. I remember seeing a thread some time ago that said the date code of “D” was for 1990. Was the DDR still manufacturing/issuing items in 1990. What is an approximate value range for this item. I paid just over $100 for it. I am guessing that the later issue is worth less than earlier issue? Are Air Force hat any rarer than Army? Not looking to sale it, just wanted to know.
    Thanks,
    Lee

Yes the DDR manufacturers were still churning items out in 1990, they had to do something... So yes your hat is a very late manufactured, unissued Airforce Generals hat. I have no problem with it and it has no red flags ( unlike some ). Some collectors don't like late items, but they are still a legit collectable, what you paid is a good price and as you state the older they are, the price increases dramatically! Airforce hats are a little scarcer than army although alot of collectors want an army one, but with these late ones the price isn't much different. Late army & airfoce hats are still more desirable than the other service branches as these can be upgraded from standard officers hats. So overall

Hello David, and thanks for the information. Is the “1856” inside the hat a factory/manufacture’s code?
