    Visorhat bought on ebay.de

Bought this yesterday. Haven't recieved it yet so I only have the seller pic.

Is it just me or is the cap cord bigger than usual? What gives?
It's a size 58 so it's not the cap being unusually small.

Nice Cap If you need another one just let me know...I have loads of this type.

Regarding the Cap Cords..there is one possibility why they seem to be bigger.

The Cords could come from an early Visor..pre1965 .

I have noticed it too on my earlier Visors that the Cap Cord is slightly thiker.
Also the Cord Strings pointing to the right Side /////////// like you can find it on early Visors. It has been said here before, that this is no evidence for a early Visor but all my later ones have the Cord Strings going like this \\\\\\\\\
And you can turn the Cap Cords as long as you want and they still going\\\\\ this direction.

That's the only possibility I can think of.

      Best Regards
      Andreas

The difference also is in the knot type. Mike had published nice comparison pics some time back...

Thälmannpionier: The cord being early seems like the most probable cause. Any thoughts on how it ended up on this cap (except for it being put there by the dealer)?

          Are all those caps yours?
If DDR militaria has the same future as the TR militaria had in the 50s, then you'll be quite wealthy in 50 years or so.

Then again, this probably won't happen.

Andreas, one question regarding the ///// or \\\\\ direction in the cord...
here is an early type cord from the VOPO dated 1969.... has the early type knot but the coerd is going \\\\\ like your later type ones !

I have numerous DDR Visor Caps of both dark collar and open collar era. I see no appreciable difference in cord thickness.

I think there is another very likely reason for the appearance addressed not yet discussed. You are looking at a picture. If there is any wide-angle focus whatever relevant the lense used on the camera, then the bill, and anything to the front of the hat such as the chin cord, will be larger in appearance than the article really is.

I suspect when the hat is received, all things will be found to be equal.

However, if you compare the oakleaves on the cap badge (those horizontal oakleaves at the bottom) you can see they are almost as wide as the cord.
The cap cords on my other visors are a little more than half as wide as those oakleaves.

                    Michael,
I think the later Cords were made differently and therefore they have a different structure, this IMO is the reason the later ones seem to be thinner in their appearance.

                    Olivier,
Sorry,I don't know an answer to your question but it would be interesting to know if this can just be found on VP hats

You are making your observations based upon a photo that was taken by someone else. Its a photo. I would wait until you have the hat in your hands. I feel certain the cord is of normal dimensions.

To make it a little clearer I made this image for you to see.

The top visor is mine. The two red lines are exactly the same size (it was duplicated). The oakleave and cord are just as wide.

The bottom visor is another one. Once again, the two red lines are exactly the same. The red line depicts how thick the cord is. The red and blue line combined is the wideness of the oakleave. They don't match.

The cord on my new cap also just look older.

                            Hi Andreas,

Thanks for posting the cord photos. They depict exactly what I was trying to convey. While the bands are different between the the older and newer cords, the cords themselves, are in fact of the same diameter. They are just of a different weave.

                              Bone Collector,

You are measuring photographs. Not actual visor chin straps on actual three dimensional hats.

It is impossible to do measurements from photographs, unless you have all of the specifications of the hats, the specifications of the cameras and lenses, and the exact distance of hat to lense.

Honestly, you need to wait until you receive your hat. Only then can you determine if the cord is unusually large compared to the hat.

I have a question however. If you have so much concern over the chin strap that is on this hat, why did you buy it?
