Wow.
Torsten, wo wurde das geknippst?
It seems they've made a mockery of Conrad Schumann.
Certainly a spin on the famous Leibing photo, but far from accurate. It seems almost insulting, considering what Schumann went through after his defection.
Oh, the cufftitle is totally wrong anyway...
Pic was taken in 1961 before the creation of the Grenztruppen and well before the introduction of the cufftitle.
Schumann was a BePo.

There are some depictions of the DDR that are so completely silly, that it hardly seems worthwhile to point out the obvious errors. And while this photoboard can't be let off the hook as completely as, say, the essentially Nazi DDR of the excellent film "Top Secret", it does fall on the "beneath contempt" side of that line for me at least.
PS-- Torsten, that last picture of the stair towers of the Palast-- is for me far and away the best of them all, because it sets what's (temporarily) left into a context, giving a small piece of a cityscape with dislocation between what is seen and what SHOULD be seen, or HAD been seen. Obviously I'm letting my architectural training run rampant here, but it really is quite a good shot.

Good step in the right direction getting rid of that ugly building.
Getting the schloss back to its former glory is a wonderful idea. Love IT!
Just out of curiosity:
why do some people miss this ugly building? Berlin lost too much inner city beauty because of the war. Old nice buildings are important history, and it's also a very nice looking schloss they want's to rebuild.
Just look at the Dresden Neumarkt project. It's wonderful, I've been watching that project since 2003 and seeing the changes, from ugly dead mans land and back to what it looks like today gives me great pleasure.Last edited by Steinar; 11-29-2008, 01:51 PM.
