    My New Green M-56

I just bought this off of eBay. As you can see it is painted green all original and dated 1960. It is almost the color tone of WW2 helmets. Border Troops possibly? Export? Any thoughts? Regards, Ron.

yes paint looks in fact like on m42 ww2 helmets and the liner leather looks very war time made ,looks on the back if there are any stamps .

      Hi Ron
I have three helmets dated 60,61 and 62 identical in both color and liner . I'm guessing that the color was typical for all east german forces at that time period with the exception of volksmarine which period fotos show grey.

Thanks for the response. It seems possible that green was the color used in all early helmets and later changed to slate grey?

I do own an "early" helmet shell:

            II
            11
            58

already, fitted with the "new" liner.

This helmet shell still shows the "green" colour.
