                Torsten,
sure, I´ll try to get a cheap-flight to Berlin. But the route Cologne-Berlin is such highly used, that I must book a seat more than 9 weeks before the leaving date...

Maybe my family would come with me (my wife got her studies once in Berlin and wasn´t there for years...) So maybe it´s too difficult get places in a cheap-jet for all of us... And I.C.E. is at least as comfortable as an airplane, even if not completely so fast.

                  Dirk,

I understand. For myself, I'll certainly travel by plane from Paris (easier and faster...).

                  Cheers.

Thanks for the heads up on this place Nico, I'll buy the coffee!

I guess there will be a mass of DDR collectors descending on the place soon, so I give it's original East German fixtures and fittings 2 months max

Yesterday I was in a little Canteen in Teltow, and was very surprised about the interior Design of that place.
Everything was originally DDR. Tables, Chairs, Plasic Flowers, Plates and everything else.
The only new thing was a Coca Cola Fridge.
And the best thing was the taste of the food.
The same as I remembered from the old Mitropa Places.
I think it's a must for every DDR Collector.
                      cheers
                      Nico
Nico, how can they survive if the food is just like the old Mitropa food???... anyhow, would you be able to still provide the name and location of the place? Cheers, Torsten.

                        Restaurant

When I went to East Berlin I didn't know anything about it. I ate at the Restaurant Sofia.....which I thought was really pretentious.

                        Here is the pic.

No, it's not. That is the old Bulgarian restaurant in Berlin. There was one in Rostock as well, in Lange Strasse, called Varna.

We went there quite often - and it was the closest we got ( pre-1990) to greek food. Mind you, bulgarian food is really nice. In my opinion, at least.

I agree with Torsten: As long as we can set smthg up at least 6 weeks before the actuall meet, I'll have a chance to be there. But I'd like to point out that a Friday or Saturday would be ideal - and I assume that might suit Dirk and Torsten as well ( in fact, all of those who have to work).

I'll most likely stay in Berlin - unfortunately in the west but that's where my friend has his flat which he only needs Monday to Friday.

At least we will meet in the spring and not during the summer, while there will be the FIFA World Cup in Berlin. Maybe I can earn a few bucks advertising my small appartment in Berlin during the Cup.

                                Hi there !
I'll have to find out the adress. It's at the Main Street in Teltow. And it's like I remembered in the "good" old times: They close, when everybody is hungry. The opening hours are from 7.30 to 13.30, and I think they survived this long, because there are enough "East"-Germans arrount wholike the East-german Food.
And they are great, they had the stainless silverware, but mostly with GDR or DDR on it.
And its no problem to take the guy's out there.
                                cheers
                                Nico
By the way, I have some MfS silverware on ebay. try: uscob
