    East German Restaurant

    Hi Folks!
    Especially David and Marcus!
Yesterday I was in a little Canteen in Teltow, and was very surprised about the interior Design of that place.
Everything was originally DDR. Tables, Chairs, Plasic Flowers, Plates and everything else.
The only new thing was a Coca Cola Fridge.
And the best thing was the taste of the food.
The same as I remembered from the old Mitropa Places.
I think it's a must for every DDR Collector.
    cheers
    Nico

    Nicolas,

My wife and I will be in Berlin Spring of 2006. I hope to also meet with several of the Forum members here, in particular Torsten and Dirk. I think it would be really neat to get together at this restaurant, if it is still there next Spring. Would you mind very much sending me a PM with the address?

I very much want to visit the restaurant.
Oh yeah, was the silverware aluminum or steel? I recall eating at several restaurants in former East Berlin, where the silverware was aluminum.

Well if the food tasted the same as in the DDR it would be better to give it a miss. Unless you like eating cardboard that is.

Oh yeh, I forgot, Nico actually likes the taste of MREs so no wonder he liked that place.

Oh yeah,I can remember the DDR aluminum silverware very well..every Time you hit your tooth-filling(Amalgan) with the fork a uncomftable shake went through your whole body ....luckly for those with healthy teeths and without fillings

I one time took the Driver on my Tank with me and my wife on a visit to East Berlin in the late 70s, and we stopped off at a restaurant I had never patronized before. They had the aluminum silverware there. My Tank Driver immediately stuck the fork in his upper lip on his very attempt at taking a bite of the food we were served. I know it hurt like hell, but all of us, including him, laughed so hard we thought we were going to cause the ceiling to cave in.

            Ooohhhhh guys,
how I miss the feelings of aluminium silverware at my amalgam-fillings (like a thorn in my a...).
Mike and all: we should absolutely visit this restaurant! I´m looking forward beautiful "Sprelacart"-tables, wax tablecloths, unfriendly waiters and beer for 80 Pfennige...

                If I should be honest:
I believe, there we will probably have no luck...

If a beer would cost 80 Pfennige, we will also get a real good and tasty Bockwurst (or Bulette) with Brötchen for 1,- Mark...
                (...and a wall around us ... )

yes, but that was just to keep all the Wessies and Amis out of the DDR, so that they would not buy out all our beers and sausages... Cheers, Torsten.

I will certainly try to join you next year but that may be tricky as I need quite a few weeks to plan ahead.

As for the place itself, I'd like to get the address as well - it might actually a place I used to drink in during my apprenticeship 1983 to 1985. It's not called the "Blechschnauze" by any chance, is it?

I definitely agree, this would be a unique setting in which all of us could meet. It would really be nice if we could all plan this so that Dag, Torsten and Dirk could all be there in addition to others of us on the Forum, such as Skip and Nicolas (and of course myself). Probably we would also have to notify the people that own/operate the Restaurant, but I'm sure Nicolas could accomplish this for us.

providing that we can fix the dates at least 6 weeks in advance, then I should definitely be able to get there...I also have an address for a place in Prenzlauer Berg (150m walk from a huge pub... ) were you can rent a large flat...a lot cheaper than staying at a hotel and much nicer and more relaxed and in East Berlin and, and, and...there is also a company doing tours of Berlin in Trabants...would anyone be intersted in that? Cheers, Torsten.

Hehehe, if I'm also invited I will join the club as I will be in Berlin for my studies next year.

By the way, I have just decided to join the Association member club on the forum. Maybe I will get a rebate at this DDR restaurant.

                            Hi Soviet,

                            Of course you are welcome.

I'd be interested in the Trabant Tour only if we get to actually drive them.

you can always ask...not much to break on Trabi anyhow, so even an old US tank driver should be ok with that... Cheers, Torsten.
