    NVA visor hats

It seems like every web site, and every auction site, and especially ebay, all have hats for sale. There is a vast price range. Is this a mass dump of old gear for hard cash? Or are these fakes trying to cash in? It seems the same for Russian. Old USSR. Opinions please.

The DDR NVA Hats to which I suspect you are making reference to, are the late production models of mid to late 80s vintage. There was and still is a large surplus of these, hence their continued appearance on ebay and other auctions. They usually are offered in bulk quantity (20 or more) for about 5 EURO each.

East German Military memorabilia is a bit funny sometimes. Some of it has doubled, tripled and quadrupled. And then some of it is now worth a mere pittance of what it sold for shortly after the fall of the Wall in 89.

The Visor Hats to which you are making reference are an example. In 1990 in Berlin, the type referenced above in this thread, were selling for as much as DM 25.00. Funny how things change.

      Peter,

I re-read your post. I may have misunderstood. Are you implying there are a lot of old type NVA Visor Hats appearing on ebay and other auction sites? While on occasion they do turn up, I personally have not seen that many. However, your expressed concern about these older type hats which do sell for considerably more "Geld" than their more common later production brothers, being "Faked" are well founded. There is evidence of at least one factory somewhere in the Czech Republic turning out faked "Color Piped" NVA Visor Hats. However, so far no one has been able to successfully "Fake" the "Bullion Insignia" that goes with these type hats, and that is one way they can be sorted out from the real deal.

Thank you. I think I see the difference. The surplus all seem to be metal insignia pinned . The sites have the embroidered, older ones.
