Value for a Complete NVA Army Officer's Dagger Set

Hi,

I have never posted anything in this area of the forum before, but I hope a DDR collector out there may be able to help with a question I have.
I am trying to get an idea of a rough ball park price value for a DDR Army officer's Dagger (complete with hangers and brocade belt & buckle, and still in the original dark green presentation box). The condition is top (all pieces).

Can anyone give me a clue as to what this is currently worth - I haven't a clue. I have been offered this set, but don't want to make a mistake and get killed on the price.

That's about US $304 - Thanks very much, gives me an idea of what's an acceptable price, and what would be a mistake on my part; and it just so happens to be almost exactly what the guy is actually asking (US $300).

I bought my NVA officer dagger set with all matching serial numbers including its original numbered green cardboard box back in July 1997 for $175 from a widow of dagger collector through my dealer friend. This dagger was made only 6 months before East Germany disappeared from world map in 1990. I still have this DDR Army officer dagger set today after 8 years. I've seen similiar NVA dagger sets selling on eBay for about average of $225-$250. I am still proud to keep on my original DDR dagger set including officer parade belt today! Redjames

Hiya, James...do you know the key to the coding/serial number system of the daggers to get an idea, when they were made? The serial number on mine is 67983. Cheers, Torsten.

We already discussed this code question... and noone had the clue... same with binos that are serial # and some dated... I have already gatherred a few numbers and the matching dates to see if something will come out or not...
Any way we should try and gather the same as for daggers... (some still have the serial # and dated warranty form)
Mike gave a good hint to have an overal idea on the production date : older daggers had marble style handles ; later ones did not. Some old ones also have the later style plain handles (not marble) ; the difference with the later style ones is that these have a seam and the older ones do not.

Hi, Thanks to all for assistance, and to Thälmannpionier for the link -
Very interesting.
I'll have to check the dagger set (I bought it); I am not sure if there was a guarantee card in the box with the blade and accouterments. I may have paid too much for this dagger set at $300, judging from other comments here, but so it goes. This set came from the late David Cook's collection (the Texas fellow who had a very large collection of artifacts, though mostly Wehrmacht).

Gary,

When you receive your boxed Honour Dagger set, look at the dagger handle and the dagger holder. If the handle is marble like in appearance, the blade has a maker's mark and serial number, and the "Holder" has three holes instead of two, you have purchased one of the very early production sets, and in my opinion, the price you paide would then be well worth it.

The "Holders" initially issued had three holes. Later production "Holders" had just two. The piece that connected the "Holder" to the Belt also was different, as were the earlier production belts.

Example: The top "Holder" is the earlier production "Holder" to which I was making reference.
