I love these early DDR enamel sports badges...do you have any? Does anyone know the time period that these were awarded in (from to?)? How many levels of this badge were there and how far did the serial numbers go??? Here is a pick of one of mine...Cheers, Torsten.

sorry, yes...the full number is 47978 and the badge is actually quite large...it is gold and first class ...it measures 1 5/8" long. Cheers, Torsten.

I really like those Sport Badges.
I have the Miniature of the silver "Stufe II" but will get the big one and the complete gold one next week.
I also have a little blue book with this Sport Badge on the cover.
I will post pics of it together with the Badges, soon as i get them.
cheers
Andreas
P.S. The bronce "Stufe III" Badge is probably the rarest because it is the one with the highest Value of all three Versions.
Probably, because we had only "Sportskanonen"(best sport-mens) in the DDR who received gold and silver all the Time

Hey Torsten...thanks for the complete number. It would be nice if you had the numbered award document that went with this badge.

I had a look in the Bartels Spezialkatalog...it says that the Sport Badge shown on the Urkunde was issued between 1956-1965 . The Sport Badge posted by you was issued between 1954-1956 before that, the Badge looks nearly the same but on the very early Sport badges from 1951-1953 ,you see just the half of the two runners(without the legs)
cheers
