I'm not sure I realyy understood what you call label/hanger, but this is a photo of what I understood. I think it's well a Zivilverteidigung jacket, I will post photos of oen of this jacket I found on internet. They are the same jackets like Kampgruppen, but with no pockets on the sleeves. If the picture I post is not what you wanted, please tell me it.

Look at this Zivilverteidigung I found on the internet, it's the same. We can see on this onse the patch on the left sleeve. On mine, there is no more patch, but we can see there was one on the left sleeve (see my post where I post the pictures)

yes, that was what I meant by the hanger and it is the standard way that the size was put on DDR uniform jackets...by the way, what did hanger/lable look like on uniform jackets from other eastern bloc countries? Does anyone know?

looks like, what you have is a Zivilverteidungsjacke then.... Cheers, Torsten.

Torsten, these are other pictures which can help look at the sleeves buttons, it's typical of ddr jackets : one fixed button, and the other button which can be removed.

Absolutely no doubt its DDR in my mind, and the presence of that stitching on the sleave I think suggests civil defence.... which as others have said is similar to Kampfgruppen, but not the same!

Out of interest, does it have lace holes for tying on rank insignia? (shoulder boards)

No Kozlov, there are no holes to put shoulerboards. Exactly as the picture of the Zivilverteidigung I found on the internet and that I posted down.
