      Del Panfini,

The Order of the Patriotic War can be approximately dated by the number on the back. This thread should have been posted on the Communist sub forum. I can move it there is you wish.

      Regards,

      Gordon

        1. Order of Patriotic War serial # 775472, made by Krasnokamsk Mint in 1945. Awarded mid-late 1945. Research will give a definite answer. Awarded for wartime deeds.

        2. War Merit medal serial # 227598, serial number dates to first half of 1943. Exact date can be found by having research done.

            russian medal help

Than You all for the help. Where do I research the serial numbers to find out the exact month when they were issued? On the other two medals that were made in 49 these were issued to civilians? They were made from 1949 onward to this present day? Is there any way to tell on those what decade they were made in?

            Thanks,
            Del

The numbered order and medal can be researched via Auke: http://www.aukedevlieger.nl/

This research will give you the name of the awardee and exact date of awarding plus also the reason why the person earned this order/medal. Very interesting results can be found through this research.

Those two medals are the Valiant Labor Medal and the Distinguished Labor Medal. Both are 925 sterling silver, BTW.
They were both created in 1938 and both have a few variations between them.
About 2 million of both were awarded, in total, right up to the end of the Soviet Union. These were awarded to civilians (and former soldiers).
Your Valiant Labor medal has a brass suspension which might date it, very roughly, to the 1950s or 60s. Hope that helps.
                Thanks,
                Eric Gaumann

Thanks for all the help. The one medal with the brass backing you said was probably made in the 50's-60's? Then the one with the metal backing was made from the 60's onward in the same style backing? Is there any way to tell if this medal was made in the 60's or 70's or onward?

                  Thanks,
                  Del
