Senior Lieutenant Gymnasterka - all good?

    Hello all,

Recently I got this gymnasterka with Senior Lieutenant shoulderboards. I know a bit of Soviet uniforms but can still use some help. I am pretty sure this is an original wartime worn gymnasterka. The collar shows signs of usage where a neck collar had been stitched once. The cuffs show wear and staining. On the chest there are signs of orders and medals being worn. So all in all I am pretty convinced this is a good one. The shoulderboards however I have no clue about. All I can say is from my observations that both have been there for a long time and the edges show staining and wear from being worn a lot. The stars on the boards are also nicely embedded in the boards.

So I am looking forward to hear opinions from more experienced uniform collectors and especially from those with experience with shoulderboards. Thanks a lot in advance!

    Here's the uniform:

Looks really nice, all of it. I have a soft spot for WW2 Russian. Love the piped cuffs too, I have a gym just like that but in artillery red...

              Thanks a lot Nick!!

I've been told by now that the boards are immediate postwar boards (possible German reparations because of the quality backing material) and that the loop on the bottom of the boards are the tellsign. These are narrow all the way and the wartime ones should go from wide to narrow towards the ends.

So all in all not a 100% correct wartime gymnasterka but pretty close anyway which for me is good enough since 100% certain and fully original and complete ones are probably impossible to find nowadays.

still a great piece in that having early post war boards, and looking like it's been together for some time tells me it may very well have been post war period worn that way...……...dave
