Order of the Patriotic War - 2nd Class

    Hi guys,

Picked up my first Order of the Patriotic War - 2nd class, serial number 378479, which I believe dates it to November 1944 to January 1945 production. Would love your opinions on it, and exactly what type of screwback should come with this order to match the time period. I suspect it came with a later type screwback.

    Thanks guys.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Here is the screwback it came with, I believe this is a later type, correct? It fits the screwpost perfectly, but please let me know your thoughts.

    Thanks

Very nice looking starback OPW II with tons of character!! It is made by the Krasnokamsk Mint in the beginning of 1945. Screwback is a later type and is correct for this one.

If interested, it is type Type 2 Variation 1.9.2. (see: http://www.odysseus1.freeyellow.com/odysseus/pw2.htm ).

          Hi Marcel,

Thanks very much for the comments and the link for the exact variant, that is a great website and resource! Very happy to hear that the screwback is appropriate for this variant, I was a little concerned it was from a different, later example.

Nice example you have, really nice patina!

            Thanks a lot Tom!!

Here's my favourite, awarded to IS-2 tank commander Afanasy Ivanovich Tokman on June 27 1944 for the battles near Vyborg. It has quite some loss of enamel and even the repainted 7 o'clock arm lost all paint again due to being worn in battle.

Oh nice, an IS-2 award. Unless it's stated in the award I find it quite difficult to find out what exact equipment the awardee was using.

For instance the '1075th Army Interceptor-Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment' in 1945 probably a 76mm gun but nothing definitive.

I agree it is often not specifically stated but here I have quite some research fortunately (thanks to Auke). Please see:

Correct, that's the version used from the 50s onward. You need one like this (like Marcel's specimen):
