    Latest addition - Defense of Odessa

    Hi guys,

    Wanted to show my latest campaign medal pick up, Odessa. Nicely worn example, with original suspension and uncut ring. The ribbon looks relatively new and not the original IMO, but still a nice fit and enough wear on it to really go well with the worn medal. Hope you guys like it as much as I do.

    A very well worn lovely medal!!! Ribbon is a later replacement indeed but that doesn't matter. This medal is a beauty!

        Looks good but highres pics on the medal itself is neccesary to evaluate in depth, especially the reverse where some fakes has weak letters. Also I usually take a shot of the rim area around the eyelet to evaluate if its coinstruck.

          Hi guys,

          Thomas, here are some closeups of the medal itself, along with closeups of the the rim at the suspension loop. Not exactly sure what I am looking for here, doesn't have shear marks like I am used to with German Combat badges, but I suspect that these medals were struck in a different way. The rim on my Odessa looks like several of the other campaign medals I have in my collection, so I think all is OK but please take a look and give me your thoughts.

            No doubts whatsoever. A really nice, well worn medal, and as said, a beauty!!

              Hi Tom

              It looks 100% good, great red patina as are often seen. Basicly soviet medals are difficult because the are so small, compared to a TR badge, and were worn by the vets often at jubilees, parades etc. and for many years. This makes it IMO hard to differentiate between cast repro and struck worn original.
