Campaign Medal - Defense of Kiev

    Hi guys,

For completeness of my campaign medal collection, I have added this Defense of Kiev medal. The Kiev medal was instituted in 1961 and issued to all service men and weomen as well as workers who took an active part in the defense of Kiev battles. Even though they are all postwar made, I decided to add one to the collection to complete my campaign medal series and thought this medal had a nice worn look to it with good looking ribbon. Has a nice uncut suspension ribbon and the medal has a mirror like golden finish to it. Also very light compared to my other, wartime campaign medals thanks to the one-piece aluminum suspension.

    Thanks

    Tom

Really like the design of this medal and even though it is an early 60's awarded medal it still must be in any campaign medal collection indeed. What is with the connecting ring? Has it been cut or just bend open and close again? Hard to see.

Hi guys, thanks very much for the comments Marcel and Greif.

Marcel, the ring ends aren't exactly flat, but appear to be neatly cut. I will try to get closeup if I can.

Very nice, the Kiev is the last of the defense medals. Very few where every issued because so few survivors of the battle outlived ether the war or Stalin. Nice early example.
