    Capture of Berlin Medal

    Hi guys,

Another recent addition for me, a nice Capture of Berlin medal. 1-piece brass suspension with cut suspension ring, so possibly replaced, but still a relatively early example IMO. Ribbon is a good fit to the suspension and possibly original to it, not sure. The medal ring has some discoloration at base, but doesn't seem repaired or resoldered to me, and it is the correct shape and size for an early medal from 1945-1947 I believe.

I really like the color scheme of the ribbon on these Berlin medals, making them my favorite sovient campaign medal.

    Thanks for looking.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Very nice one Tom! Your Soviet collection is growing fast it seems. Great

This is a nice 1st pattern medal indeed. It is a bit hard to see but to me it looks like the connecting ring is uncut (though not soldered together which is the case with most medals) and this suspension is original to this medal. Ribbon also could be original to this suspension. Very nice catch!

And yes, I also prefer this ribbon most of all campaign medals.

      Hi Marcel,

Wow, great news here with this one! Very happy to read that the ring and suspension may be original, and the ribbon too!! That is some good new information for me, I thought all rings had to be soldered to be original. Mine is indeed cut, here a better pic. The ring itself is perfectly round shape, not misshapen at all and the cut is rough, but the ends fit perfectly together like a puzzle. So all good signs that its an original ring and suspension after all?

Thanks for the kind help Marcel.

As with the Victory over Germany also this Berlin medal has an uncut ring. Both ends not always need to be soldered together - these flat, well fitting ends are also a sign of the original uncut ring
