Russian Shell Case,help please!

Hi,
I've just got a Russian shell case in,and was wondering if anyone knew how to date these?
There are lots of stampings on the base,with a few cyrillic characters,and lots of numbers!
I'll post a pic of the base soon!

It was made in 1949-- that is the mark that looks like "49r." A small "g" for the Russian word for "year" follows year dates.

There is also some text on the side of the shell,it looks like it has been very lightly engraved on to it,the only problem is capturing it on a photo,as you can only see it in a certain light!
