Soviet medal for the defence of Sevastopol

    Hi everyone

Just bought this one and would like to know your opinions. The cut in arrow/triangle is enigmatic?

Looks like an original variation 1 type 1 (without rounded edge). Don't know why someone would cut a triangle in this medal?? Still a nice and very rare medal.

Here's mine, a variation 1 type 2 (with rounded edge):

      Hi Michael

Thanks for your comments and showing your beautifull var. 1.2. medal. After collecting Third Reich awards for 30 years I find that these medals are a real challenge. Firstly because theres allmost no official sources explaining anything (to my knowledge) and secondly because these medals don`t have different base metal, hooks, catches and finnishes that the fakers can f...k up.

        Hello Thomas,

I have to agree these are a real challenge though after studying a lot of the differences can usually easily be seen between real ones and fakes, just like with Third Reich awards. There are some websites with excellent information about these medals, though these are in Russian so I have to use an online translater. It works though. Just check: http://www.mondvor.narod.ru/medpage.htm

By coincidence I also managed to get myself an original variation 1 type 1 this morning, an excellent way to end the year

        Best regards,
        Marcel

Congrats on a very nice catch Can you post a picture of the rim. I know the Mondvor narod site but have found some of the dicussion sites to be les active than WAF. What site can you recommend?

For Soviet militaria I prefer the War Relics forum. Lots of knowledge there and people always willing to help eachother. And from the forums I know that one is the most active when it comes to Soviet items.

Here's the rim with connecting ring of both type 1 and type 2:
