Soviet Order of the Red Banner Grouping

This is my first ever Soviet Russian grouping. Can someone tell me the Officer's name and rank.

How does one go about getting the information on this man? Also, all the numbers match the information contained in the book.

    Thank you,

    Chuck

This man was chief of headquarter of 102d borderguards squad of NKVD troops.
Got his Red Banner for combat actions agains Finnish troops in Karelia in August-September 1941. Also had medal For defense of Leningrad. Red Star and Combat Merit could be service awards.

Red Star is indeed a long service award (most likely 1951) and the Combat Merit is in my opinion most likely a late 1945 real combat award.
Nice set and would love to see better pictures of the awards with better, more natural light.

            Got it...Vladimir Nikolaevich Kesaritskiy.

I also have his Leningrad Campaign medal which was lying loose with a couple more items included when I picked this up.

Since he joined the army in 1932, both his Combat Merit Medal and Red Star have to be long service awards (for 10 and 15 years of service, respectively).

His citation can be found here:

                          http://podvig-naroda.ru/?#id=1181088...DetailDocument

He was a Major, serving as deputy chief of the 102nd NKVD Forces Border Guard Detachment, tasked with protecting the rear of the Leningrad Front. He was actually nominated for an Order of Lenin, but this was subsequently downgraded to an Order of the Red Banner.

This is all very interesting. I can see now how addictive collecting Soviet orders could become.

The Red Army fought in some of the most horrific fronts during the war, Leningrad was certainly among them. The one blessing is he would have been entitled to a higher ration than the city's inhabitants.

                              Congrats on your new grouping..!
