    Commerade Yao

I just heard on the radio that Yao Ming ( ya know that giant basketball player) just recieved the award of "Model Communist Worker" from the chinese communist party.

    What a joke.

Can somebody show me what that award looks like?

    Dear General Tso:

No,Yao is just be nominated to be the "National Model Worker" by the Trade Unions of Shanghai, the final result will be publicised in May.

And in our People's Republic of China,we haven't "Model Communist Worker",we only have "Model Worker".

I am sorry I haven't found the picture of the "National Model Worker",but my father is a policeman,he is a "Provincial Model Worker of Guangxi".

I am sorry my English isn't very well.

In my rememberance, the receiptor of title of "National Model Worker" could awarded the "National May 1st Labout Medal".

Here are some pictures about "Provincial May 1st Labour Medal" and its certificate:

Why is it a joke? The people and the gvt. of China are very proud of Yao Ming, and rightfully so. He's very successful at what he does. Congrats to Mr. Yao.
        Thanks,

          Yes indeed!

Our British kin, for instance, have a truly bizarre habit of bestowing Knighthoods (and worse ) on some frighteningly inappropriate people. My own country's highest civilian award might most accurately be described as the Medal For The Almost-Dead and Political Has-Beens.

We live in interesting, changing times. I grew up in the "hottest" period of the "Cold War," when things way back then did NOT seem like they would ever turn out the way that they have (1989, 1991...) . History is writing new pages every day...

and I hope we are nearing the final chapters in this particular story. 2011 is coming up fast, and hope springs eternal.

The winner of Golden Medal in Olympic Games could be awarded the "National May 1st Labour Medal" without the title of "National Model Worker".

The title of "National Model Worker" is the highest award of People's Republic of China, here is a picture of a "National Model Worker" from Dalian wearing his "National May 1st Labour Medal":

I think the best thing is that the (communist) Chinese government is acknowledging the fact that one of their own is successful in an alternative (capitolist) system. Back in the "cold war" days communist (and capitolist) governments would often deny each others existence.

They're baby steps, true, but at least they are happening. I think fewer people's human right's will be denied or not observed because of Yao Mings playing B-ball in Houston.
                Thanks,

With this "national model worker" medal you'd think he was working in a tractor factory somewhere rather than playing basketball in the U.S. That's what's a joke to me.

But what is not a joke is how he is busting his hump out on the court and his money is being stolen from him from the "people's" government a la Martina Navratalova. They're not proud of him, they are proud of his paycheck.

"Model Communist Worker" I never heard about this "Model" in China.I don't know who translate into English with this "communistic name."

everything in China needn't have a part of "communis side".

PS:not every Chinese b-ball fan likes Yao. I am proud of him because of Chinese. But I don't like him, this kind of thin and soft centre. I like o'Neal and olajuown~

                      Pride and Prejudice.

Maybe you think a sportsman could NOT be called "Worker"?

I can tell you ,Though I don't like basketball(I like football),but I am still proud of Yao Ming.

He's still learning the nuances of the American version of the game. He'll get tougher as he learns what his elbows can do.
