    Russian Modern or WW2 Flag

    Hi guys,

I picked this Russian Flag up at a WWI vets estate. It was unexpected but I have wondered if it was WW2 or more Cold war related. It is made of cotton and is stitched.

Thanks in advance for the help!
    William

        Hello William:
IMO a post WW2 flag based on small
H&S, and blade not beyond the star.

With this one I agree. I have seen period photos with the blade not beyond the star however. So only using that criteria doesn't give a definite answer.

From what I see, I would date it as an East Geman, 1970's made one.
Had similar ones from the Central Flag Depot where they had a large industrial Hall full of Flags and Fabric, if they didn't had one, they made them overnight, especially for State visits for the Street Decoration etc.
In the 1990's I got a nice Stars & Stripes, mabe 3x4 Meters what they made for a possible State Visit of Pres. Reagan, in case he wanted to visit the East.
Sadly it was before my "Technical Revolution" with a digi-Cam.
Back then I thought, it was such a bad Quality, it was good for a some Hours Visit but not for a Day-long use.
It came together with 2 Car Pennants, DDR & State Chief, together with the Number Plates IA 01-01, so for their Staatsratsvorsitzender.

Without arguing over authenticity, I must say the hammer and sickle looks rather sloppy and childish as if it was made in a haste or without any real care on appearance. Just a hammer and something on a red sheet.

Thank you all for the replys! I have ever handled a WWII Russian or Post WWII Russian flag before - this is completely out of my comfort zone.

I can say though that the construction does feel old, and I had thought (Like uscob pointed out) that it was made as an East German item.

If I can provide you all with any additional angles, just let me know!

                    Take care,
                    William

LOL:_) The overall quality and proportions of the sickle, hammer and the star are really very miserable. This flag could have been made in a satellite socialist country (Cuba, Vietnam, Africa,..) or could have been deliberately degraded - Czechoslovakia after August 1968 etc.. etc..
