Hi Soviet, once I read "all sales final" in any E Bay auction alarm bells start ringing in my head...

    Cheers, Ade.

The leather on the coat looks too new. It doesn't compare with the wear on the leather helmet or even on the coat tabs. I'd stay away.

That's the same I was thinking. The thing is I know nothing about Soviet uniforms. I'm specialized in Soviet helmets.

Adrian : Nice one, I think you are right.

          coat

I'd like to look it over in person, it might be repro but i do not see anything to say that. But, its for a ground services member. Black border on the collar tabs and no sleeve wings is for ground services. If it were a pilot or flight engineer it would have sleeve wings ( pilot or engineer). If they were going to fake it, i bet they would fake a pilot, not a ground guy. It loses alot of value by not being a pilot and i suspect thats why its for sale and why its "no return".

                I vote...

                Turd!

Every Soviet leather coat that I have ever examined was at one time, when new, obviously very shiny. Not quite patent leather, but still a shiny finish. All of thes coats now exhibit some degree of surface crazing and cracking to this shiny finish. This finish also wears in certain ways that are hard to explain. The ebay coat shows none of these traits. The coat offered up for comparison demonstrates all these characteristics... very nice by the way.

This is a postwar coat with fake insignia in my opinion, possibly German made as the qualities of the leather are identical to a coat I had at one time that was made in East Germany for the Red Army. It was scalloped over the shoulders like these wartime Russian coats, but the leather quality was impecibly German.

The coat from Dave looks like black and the one on eBay is more brown. Don't know if that has something to do ?

                    coats

These coats have different makers and places, etc. Some were black, some brown. I had a nice flight engineer coat that look liked the bottom was eaten by rats, but it was brown.

                      Nice coat Dave

So where is it now? Did you ever have it assembled with the rest of his gear?
