        A bit late but to add to the discussion: Period pre 1955 design flags have the sickle reaching past the underside of the star. Post 1955 flags have the tip of the hammer and sickle even with the underside of the star where it indents, or before, with few exceptions. Anything before 1955, including ww2, had the sickle reach past the star, as shown in the German made example and some others in this thread.

          If you could draw this in a diagram, it would really help me and other legit collectors out!!! Is this correct (see below) ?
