      Thanks Gerd!
How can you see the difference between a ww2 piece and a post war example?

Russian stuff is not my piece of cake

        Yeah, noone knows everything.

The later ones are lower quality than these WW2 types and are made with cold enamel or paint instead of hot enamel like on yours.

        best,
        Gerd

i thought the two piece stars were pre-war, known as the "1936" star, they were produced between 1936 and 1939. i gather they were worn during the war though.

That was my understanding as well. The two piece stars are the very early stars and the one, the op posted is the following model, but still ww2. I got one like it, i´ll try to find it in daylight tomorrow.

I have 3 , 2 were bought back by GI's and are the two part type , the other one is also 2 parts . Those are the ones that get the money on eBay . The ones posted by the originator are very common and have little value . However we would have to wait a USSR expert to tell us what was used in WW2. Rob

There were both two pieses and whole enamel stars produced prewar and wartime.
But I think the scharfschutzeNL's star is postwar example.

Interesting! I made a few photos of mine and its different to the one shown here. The arms ot the star are much more pointed.

                            I consider its prewar issue.
