From the photo,we can see the medal of hero of Democrtic People's Republic of Korea, and order of national flag and others which i can not identiy.

I wonder will these medals can provide some kind of protection or just like a body armor.

From eBay. It comes from a propaganda video.

No wonder North Korean awards are scarce -- the recipients are still wearing them all.

              Doug....
All of the north Korean decorations that I have seen were made in the Soviet Union. They exhibit the typical high quality of Soviet Workmanship.

Imagine how many of the Orders will be available to collectors once North Korea normalises and becomes an open market economy.

                    Bill,

                    Not exactly so.

Only early pieces from 1950s were made in Soviet Union. Those are of high quality, made from silver and are quite expensive.

Some good quality awards were manufactured in Checho-Slovakia as well.

Majority of Korean awards were made locally and they look crappy compared to early speciments. Cheaper materilas were used, such as aluminum and copper alloys. Also instead of hot glass-like enamel Koreans applied paint or cold enamel.

                    Regards,

                    William

Notice the uniform similarity to 1950s Soviet uniforms, especially the caps which look almost identical to late 50s and 60s Soviet officer caps.

The cap of KPA sometimes is quite large and thick.

The amount of medals they wear can be sompared with Brezhniev.

Thanks for the additional information on the manufacture of the North Korean awards. I guess that the only ones I have ever seen are the earlier ones, which really are quite nice in appearance.
