    Soviet Commissar Insignia WW2

    Hi all,

Recently, I'm interested in Soviet WW2 uniforms, so I'm still new about it.
Now I have a question about Soviet commissar's collar patches during the earlier part of WW2.

I saw two commissars wearing M35 tunics and their collar patches have four rectangles and crossed rifle (which I think a Batalyoniy Komissar from an infantry unit).

But one wearing crimson collar patches with black border, while the other with gold border.

What is the difference between the two?

    Cheers

Political staff of the Read Army wearing collar tabs with piping in colors of a type of troops, but commanding staff have a golden lace.

It is a political gag, the commissar is of the people not the Officer class.

Its not infantry, but "Rifles" an important distinction for the RKKA and later Soviet army and the correct term for that arm of service.
