    Ssh39 Russian Army Helmet

    Hello Guys,

Could you give me your opinion on the Russian WW2 helmet on the estand. Markings, liner ect.
I know nothing about these but fancy one for my war room. The seller has an excellent reputation and I have no reason to doubt it but I just like other opinions.

    Thanks

    Mike

      Thanks

Thanks Greif for your valued opinion

I never seen your reply before I posted this on a new thread because I thought members would think I'm looking for opinions on the last helmet and not the current one for sale on the estand.

Thanks again for taking the time to advise me

      Mike

the helmet itself is fine, it's the star i don't like again. see this thread,

        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=814282

same seller, different factory made Ssh39, but same exact star. just my opinion, of course, and i would like to hear others.

The seller is a trustworthy person. Russian helmets is not my cap of tea either but if I was looking for one I would buy from this guy with confidence. Just my opinion and to answer your possible question no the seller does not even know me. Btw The star is not "same exact" but different

"The seller is a trustworthy person" - how exactly do you know this if you say you don't know this seller? i see two helmets from him with identically applied/designed star from different factories and i question their authenticity. does this make sense? look closely at both stars, they are the same in EVERY WAY - flat, almost tape-like applied, undamaged and have exact same design. if you can't see that they are one and the same star i don't know what to tell you anymore, other than that you are obviously shilling for this seller who also happens to be from Russia... read into it what you like, i'm out.

and if Russian helmets are not your "cup of tea", as you say, then why are you even commenting on this thread? seriously.

compare and contrast for yourself. to me they look like twins in texture, thickness of paint, color, and design. and both show no wear whatsoever, although there is wear on surrounding paint.

but if only to repeat what our illustrious "leader" has said: if you like your helmet, you can keep your helmet

if anyone has another original Ssh39 with a star of this design pattern i would like to see it. thanks

I know the seller form russian militaria forums for a number of years and he is a well known collector in Moscow.
The pictures are taken under different angles, so the stars appear silghtly different, especially on my cellphone yesterday. But I just compared them on my computer screen and they do look the same. I do not know if it is really a big deal as I said Russian helmets are not my "cup of tea". Maybe they were applied not at the factory but at the same military base that they came from/found at? Or maybe this star was the standard and all factories had to use the same stencil-plate like the one on ebay?

Both stars indeed look exactly the same. If both helmets would come from the same factory, produced in the same year it could be very possible. Now it's two different makers produced in two different years. Starts to become suspicious already and this is well noted from Luftwaffenkopf.

i agree, the eBay stencil is slightly different, but the design is very similar to the ones displayed on these helmets. so similar in fact that i can see how to modify the stencil to produce the exact same stars. or perhaps other stencils exist, i don't know. i am not making any accusations here, just my observation.

i'd like to see more examples of such stars on other helmets if anyone has them. found in the same place? i don't buy stories, just the helmets.

I have seen German helmets with the same wear in the paint and decals intact.

I guess Ebay molds are made by the authentic red stars are very similar, no one manufactures a replica that does not look like an original. What it makes me think that this type of star is the most made by the Russian army at the time.

With these red stars seems that everything is conjecture, are there books that explain these red stars?.

Nobody buys stories, to buy a good helmet you have to be very well informed and no one has referred to some book in the rates of red stars that they used in the beginning of the war are described.

Is red too intense to have this 75 years?, over the years and the sun usually get red-white.
Is it possible to see more pictures of two helmets?
