I was asked by Mathomhaus to post the following text about the dagger being discussed in this thread and to also post the photo below.
Mathomhaus: The attached photo and the English text below are from Soviet Dirks by Boldyrev et al. Please note: in the book, the English text on this page was printed in white on a black background - which made a legible photographic reproduction of it virtually impossible. As a result, I typed out the text, deleting a few sentences for brevity’s sake but keeping the slight awkwardness of some of the English phrasing:
“MARSHALL’S DIRK
The model is the most rare of all existing Soviet dirks. The only known unique dirk which belonged to Leonid Brezhnev, is now exposed in the Central Museum of the Soviet Army in Moscow. The grip of this dirk is decorated with commemorative engraved text whereas the dirk was a present to Leonid Brezhnev’s 60<sup>th</sup> anniversary…There are no brands on the blade…The face of a scabbard mouth bears the cast State Emblem of the USSR framed with laurel and oak leaves, with sixteen turn of a moir ribbon…
“Unfortunately, there is no any information relating to the number of manufactured Marshal’s Dirks and any data concerning the order of bearing, introduction and canceling of this model. It is almost certain that the dirk exposed in the Soviet Army Museum is really unique, made especially for the anniversary of of Leonid Brezhnev, and in never was a ceremonial weapon. The decoration of the scabbard with the State Emblem of the USSR with sixteen turns of a ribbon on it indicates the possible date of manufacture as a 1946-1956 period, whereas the sixtieth anniversary of Leonid Brezhnev was in 1966. Therefore, the idea that this dirk was made specially for the CPSU leader’s jubilee is rather doubtful. In any case, a chance to find out the second copy of this dirk is extremely small. “
