    Russian Navy Belt Information Request

    Gentlemen:

Could anyone tell us what we have here? We know this is some type of Russian Navy officer belt. It has matching dagger hanger straps. But the buckle and the lion head hanger fittings are all of solid heavy gilded brass. The buckle is more oval than the other navy buckles we have seen, with those being more circular. This buckle has a partial oak leaf and partial laurel border wreath.

Any help identifying this belt including the time period would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

    Clay

Isn't it a naval marine because I see that there is rope around the anchor?

It is a dress brocade/dagger belt for Naval commanding structure - the earlier ones (pre 196X) were bullion, the later silken.

One WAF member has told us this is a Navy Admiral's belt. Apparently the oak leaf and laurel wreath signifies Admirals. Could anyone confirm this?

It looks like a parade belt for high ranking officers, Captain 1st Rank(I think) and up. This particular one was introduced in January 24 1941 and phased out in 1951.
The oak leaf and laurel ornament does not signify admirals. The belt material does. For officers below Captain 1st rank(they could wear it since 1945) it was made of silk. Also, the admirals buckle had brighter gilding - more gold was used.
