Thought I would post my latest acquisition here!
A mint helmet with 99% paint, unworn liner, a 1940's era time capsule!
Btw in the regular German WW2 helmet section they rather not have these helmets discussed any longer....Just too controversial...too many wild theories...Egyptian contract?
Never exported?War time made, never issued? Nobody knows really...just dead ends ...nothing conclusive either way...
One was found with a 1946 restamped CZ property stamp on the German made WW2 chin strap...so these existed like this in 1946 for sure. (mine lacks the chin strap)
So I am honoring that request..It does not belong in the WW2 section (not Wehrmacht used) at least not until we have some facts to back that theory up!
and posting it here as an interesting "Cold War era" artifact in spectacular condition!
Back story:
The majority of these surfaced in the US in large amounts from Prague in the late 1980's, all in unissued condition with 100%authenticated WW2 German parts
(liner, band, chin strap, draw string, and even German RAL identified paint (RAL code 7028)
Many believe that these are early post war refurbs for the CZ army's use or for export purposes to a Middle Eastern Army, using left over German war time parts...
which is plausible and they remained in the CZ inventories where they were found! (export order canceled...)
On the other hand some believe these might have a chance being made (rebuilt/assembled) like this late war...and just sat...surviving like this in unissued condition.
We really don't know for sure either way...
What we do know for sure is that these are close to 70+ years old and can be found in absolutely mint condition. From 1944? from 1948? We really can tell with any certainty,
but these are true time capsules from an earlier time, (late WW2 or early Cold war days, whatever theory you subscribe to! ) which makes these exciting to me,
considering the new condition! Just some minor shelf wear!!! Unfortunately many got vandalized for their liner parts or over-painted in a German field gray color for reenactor use...
Anyway I found a survivor and I just wanted to show it here as a "Cold war helmet" example (mothballed), as the Czech army did use German helmets during the early days of the cold war..
so mid-late 1940's!! See period image from member Kangaroo!
Whatever the true story is I am happy with it either way! Hope you like my Cold War era stahlhelm (with 100% German WW2 parts used for the assembly)
