I'm in Moscow now, seen both rehearsal parades in real and the official parade on TV (no audience allowed). Impressive. Afterwards I joined my wife and her relatives on the parade to remember the veterans who are not with us anymore. Over half a million people walked down the main street to Red Square with pictures of their relatives. Again impressive and an honour to have joined this parade! (pics from all the parades will follow in the living history thread).
In the evening lots of activities everywhere and all in all it's been a great celebration.

Sad to see though that veterans in Ukraine are not allowed to wear their uniforms and their hard earned medals nor the victory ribbon. Even worse is to see that Ukrainians damaged many memorials and statues to remember the fallen Soviet soldiers from 1941-1945. Not just by paintbombs but also by completely destroying these. On top there were demonstrations by Ukrainians with white power flags and SS flags and banners, demonstrating against Russia.
    Very sad.

sad and regretful. the memory of the fallen should not be marred by politics or agenda. these people gave their life for their Motherland and their families. just goes to show that there is nothing sacred anymore. and the celebration should have been attended by everyone who was absent. there was no reason to boycott this celebration, its only purpose is to honor the ones who sacrificed all to defeat the greatest evil this world has ever witnessed.

we have our work cut out for us with the next evil facing this world. i don't want to get too political here since this is not the place for this.

I agree it's very sad. The interviewed Ukrainian veterans were sad and confused why, after all the sacrifices they made 70 years ago, they are now treated like this without any respect?!

We can't get too political here indeed. But what Ukraine is doing now, honouring the Ukrainians that helped or fought alongside the Germans, and dishonouring the Soviets that freed Ukraine is in my opinion not acceptable!

                Great photos!

i am in the middle of reading "Leningrad: State of Siege" by Michael Jones, which mentions Putin's father being badly injured and evacuated from the Nevsky bridgehead...

There was a saying amongst the Red Army, "if you have not seen the Nevsky bridgehead, you have not seen the real face of war"

Great photo! Also walked somewhere there in the parade with the relatives from my wife. Very hot and it took hours to get from Tverskaya to the Red Square....but it was worth it

Gotta thank the Russian for their part on the eastern front. So many men died in the Russian Military, like a ridciously huge amount.
