Well, I started out in the late 80's/early 90's with Soviet uniforms, then switched to medals only in about 1993. This past year the prices have gone beyond my reach for even crap groups so I switched back to uniforms and now have a decent collection of the latter. Now just to sell the rest of my medals to pay for my "new" hobby!

Appreciating allways the beauty for imperial russian stuff, I started to develop also an interest for Communist Russian orders and medals since quite a while, as here on this site are fantastic threads about this topic are available. Now i bought my first russian orders, between them an order of the red banner, which i find is an extremly attractive order I just fell in love with the combination Silver/Gold/Red Enamel. But of course i find the possibility to research the owner of the medal very interesting, which i will do for my Red Banner Order(s hopefully soon ). I plan to buy orders and medals from all communist countries, if possible with document, but in my focus will probably be the Order of the Red Banner.

      best,
      Gerd

I collect combat used uniforms and headgear. I also collect Communist banners and flags. Have got a really beautiful Angolan Womens Organization banner and an even more beautiful FSLN banner from Nicaragua. For some reason I seem to find more banners than flags.
Some people prefer to collect parade uniforms and headgear, but I like used communist uniforms from Africa, Grenada, Cuba, and Central America. I feel the combat use gives it more "character".

I like collecting on a very broad front because it gives me a lot of options. I collect mostly medals and badges with the occasional uniform here and there. I like Soviet, Bulgarian, Yugoslavian, Romanian, Hungarian, East German and am begining to dabble into North Korean stuff. I probably would collect Albanian and Czech items too if only I could find them. Here is a small sample of my collection.

Interesting pole - what kind of software do you use to do same? As for what I collect, as many already might know, I mostly collect military flags and related pole top finials, but not just Commie, but also all nations and periods too! This includes from French Napoleonic, old USA, to Rawanda and Saddam's Iraq. I find all of it just as interesting as any one era or type.

OldFlagsWanted.com

I am into Soviet headgear primarily (hats are my interest across the board, actually). I have a nice collection of senior parade caps, a few pilotkas, and an ssh39.

I began collecting soviet items… well I can’t really remember when but I think it was four years ago. I am mostly interested in medals and orders but I do have a couple of other things too.
But lately my soviet medal and order collecting has almost stopped as I think the prices are too high and some of the fakes are getting alarmingly good!

Hey Felix...thanks for responding to the poll. What specific East German items do you own? And there is a DDR forum if you are interested in posting your DDR collection. Where have you been in Europe?

Hey Lee, nice hats. When you have the time, could you take some close up photos of them. Thanks...

                              Hi Ralph,
Thanks for the note on the hats and, yes, Old Flags, you noted a unit flag the caps are sitting upon. It is a unit flag for a chemical defense unit. Here are a couple of close ups of the soviet victory parade caps.
