Great Patriotic War era candids and portraits

    Gents,

I recently purchased two inexpensive lots of Soviet photos to obtain some pictures of Cold War era armor. Accompanying these lots were a score of pictures taken during and immediately after the Great Patriotic War.

As this is not my main area of collecting, I would be grateful to receive any observations or translations you would care to contribute.

I'll start of with this picture of Great Patriotic War era tommy gunners. It's not the clearest of photos and it is in poor condition. Nevertheless, the dash and elan of this body of troopers is still quite evident 70 years on.

Note the great size of the helmets and the mix of stick and drum magazines on the PPsh-41 smgs.

    All the best,
    TJ

Next up is a portrait of a handsome aviator.

I wonder if he made it through the war.

I believe this gentleman too is a pilot.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

        The last pilot photo.

        What does the caption read?

Next we have some ground force photos.

This picture appears to be from 1947 and depicts a World War II veteran.

From what I can tell he is wearing the Battle of Berlin and Victory Over Germany Orders. Is this correct?

            Here is the reverse.

            Could anyone offer a translation?

            Thanks,
            TJ

I like the way this photo was cropped to feature the red star symbol of Soviet Russia.

The final photo also portrays a Soviet officer.

The reverse of the above photo.

Again, any translation help would be gratefully received.

                      Thanks for looking.

                        Picture #5...

                        Picture #5:
From what I can tell he is wearing the Battle of Berlin and Victory Over Germany Orders. Is this correct?
You are correct. He is also wearing the Order of the Red Star, Bravery Medal, and either a Capture of Vienna medal or Liberation of Prague.

Order of the Red Star on the left (his right) plus a Bravery Medal. And the last is hard to see but I'd guess Prague or Vienna.

edit: Oops. Leaftree beat me to it..
That last one looks to be a Colonel Doctor?
There should be some Cyrillic readers here before too long to help with the translation.
                            Thanks,
