Hello, just received this today.. Curious, can't read date stamp, but is manufacture date 1939-1940 on these? Looks like original chinstrap? Thanks for any input!!

Correct, the liner type in this helmet (or what's left of it) would date it to the 39/40 time period. Seems there is something odd about the chinstrap as well. Can't say I have ever seen one sewn to the loops on this model helmet and the buckle seems too rectangular. Is the buckle aluminum?

The buckle looks to be brushed with a metal bruh, in order to make it shine older ?
