Soviet orders & medals -sell or not?

Nothing really rare I see without searching through manufactures by serial number. The 2 Orders of the Patriotic War, 2nd class should go for over $100. The flatback Oder of the Badge of Honor should be around $100. The Red Stars are almost certainly war-time and should float in the $50-100 range.
It's a nice little collection, really. I'd suggest keeping, say, one of each of the Orders, and selling the rest to fund help your Gablonz maker's search?
It's funny...I have a very small TR collection myself, and I don't ever recall anybody ever mentioning Gablonz (although I recognize the name) when identifying my awards for me.

Thanks, Eric. I really didn't know much back in the day when I was buying these, but did at least geta couple of books to keep me out of too much trouble.

I spent quite a bit of time stationed in the Czech Republic and have friends in Gablonz. Not sure what all you have, but badges with ball hinges are often from Gablonz makers. The biggest from Gablonz are JFS, RK, RSS, AGMuK and AS, but when you add in medals there at least a couple of dozen more. Like all things TR, I know I'll never get it all, but the fun is in the hunting.

I'll also take a look at the site you sent when I get a chance.

Ball hinges where used by some of the unmarked badges made outside the Goblenz area. Here is a very early LW Flak with a ball hinge. None of the Goblenz manufactures made these this early in the war but it is possible that the hardware was purchased from Goblenz vendors and assembled elsewhere.

The ball hinge luft flak badge is almost definitely a Gablonz maker. Which maker is still not 100% clear, though some think it was Adolph Scholze.

Even though there is nothing really rare, as Eric mentioned, and prices have fallen since the global recession hit, there is still a lot here-- it would take a lot of time, and money (even in today's prices) to replace everything you have here if you someday regret selling now. So my advice is to hold onto it unless youare absolutely sure you don't want to collect Soviet anymore.

If that is the case-- you're certian you don't want this-- then I see no reason to hold onto it for any length of time. You'd be keeping something you don't want, waiting for a day that might not ever arrive (the day of pre-recession prices). And think of what will happen to the prices of the German stuff you do want in the interim. They would probably increase at a great rate than these will...

Thanks for the good advice. I think I'm just going to keep a select few and sell the rest, though with everything I have going on it may be years before I get around to it!
