My Order of the Red Star

    Hi,

This is my Soviet Order of Red Star,I purchased it for a little amount of money years ago. However,I'm still unsure about it's originality.Does anyone help me about originality? Is it fake?Close up photos are available,I can send them on request.

    very Best Regards
    Tolga

    Hi Tolga,
I believe your red star is an original one, however since the number engraved in the back is 2.7 million I think it was awarded in the postwar period, probably in the 50's or even later on.

Thank you very much,It seems logical.I got similar reply from somebody else,it could be awarded in late 1945.By the way, unfortunately server doesn't provide to show pictures in another place.

      Best Regards

                Serial numbers

You can't tell the issue date from serial number alone. I've been keeping records a while and have gathered the following data points near yours:
                2.751.xxx - 25.9.43
                2.792.349 - 6.48
                2.805.736 - 16.5.45
It could very well be post-war, but you won't know 100% unless you get it researched. Also, there is sometimes confusion on dates and serial number correlation. There are usually two dates concerning an award. The date the award was authorized and the date the award was actually presented. For example the individual's award booklet may have a date like 1 May 44, but he was authorized the award 20 April 44 and presented it either a couple of months or even years later.

Are those dates the award was authorized or awarded? Based on what I've seen, I really can't imagine that a 2 million serial range Red Star was actually AWARDED in September 1943, though the citation may have been written then - with the award being presented post war.

Information posted is authorization dates. Like I mentioned above, AWARDING may have occurred later hence the high number.

Allright! Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I agree - sometimes it took years - and for some awards - decades - for them to catch up to their recipients. I once had a 1992 issue Glory 3rd class given to the sister of a veteran (he had since passed on from old age) that had earned it in 1944! The award card noted that he could not be found (he was wounded in the action, and moved to the rear) when the award was first authorized! Poor fellow... He went his entire life never knowing he was awarded a bravery medal (and it was the only one he had!)
