Ok, I see. Thank you for important information I bought this mapholder from http://www.germanmilitaria.com and got no information this is part of commander's case. But I will keep it on the bust as it can have been used to store a map or important information by an officer in the line of fire. I only have the field glasses and no period case.

Yes, the mapholder is much lighter than case itself, that is why we can often see wartime pics of Soviet officers with mapholders. But it has no department for compass, pencils and other map case equipment.
