Obverse, showing typical enamel wear and tear. This is a WW2 piece, as will be seen from the reverse: note the size of the suspension ring on the medal itself, the twisted jump ring (which helped stabilize it so it didn't jingle around as much) and the shape and size of the suspension--which in this case happens to be silver.

The reverse, with the screw disk removed to show the components. The screwpost is copper, the backplate is silvered brass, the suspension and locking nut are silver, and the screw disk is silvered brass. The silvering is often as worn (evaporated off?) as here--sometimes on the suspension too if made of silvered brass. The screw post is almost always copper.
Serial number 207, 366 is circa March 1943.
I got this from Igor Moiseyev down at the Union, NJ show a couple of years back. There are a LOT of "retro-fits" on these, since MOST early suspension recipients upgraded to the M1943 normal ribbon type suspension. It's better to buy one of these from a reliable dealer--especially with the expensive early war Orders on the similar type red ribboned suspensions! (One sign of a No-No is a snipped jump ring--they were SILVER soldered closed when made with this style suspension.)Attached Files
