    An Interesting Soviet Uniform

In twenty years of looking at Soviet Uniforms I have never seen another one of these offered for sale, although I'm certain that there are others out there.

This is the uniform jacket of an official of the Office of the Soviet Procurator, what in other countries was designated as the Public Prosecutor, or District Attorney.

The original owner's position, as reflected on the collar tabs, is that of "Advisor to the Procurator, First Rank."

The jacket is dark blue with green piping on the collar. The colar tabs are black velvet with bullion trim and gilt insignia. The buttons display the State Seal of the Soviet Union and on this tunic are dated 1975 and 1977.

I was very pleased to obtain this for my collection!

This is a history of the Soviet Procurator's office that was published in 1982. This was another lucky find as far as I was concerned, for it contains both a wealth of information and many photographs of the Procurator uniforms in wear.

I have included a photo of a Procurator official wearing the uniform as a full dress ensemble, complete with medals and badges, as well as the visor cap which is, I think, as uncomon as the uniform itself.

          Bill,

that uniform is a stunner!! I hope that you find a cap someday. Those photos of the uniform in wear really add a lot to the uniform itself. How many different collar ranks do you see in that book? Is there a ranking chart?
