Greetings all,
I have been asked in another thread to show some photos of this Soviet Submarine Commander's badge from my collection.
It belonged to a friend of mine who was an Admiral and former commander of a DELTA III SSBN. I got to know him in 1992-93, during his time as Director of the Central Naval Library in Saint Petersburg.
He knew that I was a militaria collector, but I never asked him for any souvenirs and he never offered any... until the last day we saw each other.
As I was leaving his office after saying goodbye for the last time, he literally stopped me at the door and said that I was forgetting something. As I was looking around to see what it was, he grabbed his jacket off the back off his chair, checked the pockets, and handed it to me!
This badge was on the jacket.
Then, after another emotional goodbye, he did it again!
This time it was his hat!
Here's the original thread with more information and some photos of the Admiral: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=612769
Cheers,
JD
