    Bulgarian uniform

Hello everyone, I just added another uniform to my collection and to-do list.

The Greatcoat was the start of my Militaria collection, I bought it off Epic-Militaria where is was listed as a Soviet greatcoat but after researching I found out what it was.
I bought the Tunic., Trousers and shirt a few monthes ago. I am currently looking for some boots and some insignia. I already know what hat to buy. They were quite an impulse buy since I was going to sell my greatcoat but saw these and grabbed them immediately. Anyway if any knows where I can find the correct boots and insignia then please tell me, Thanks.

I am hijacking this untouched old thread to pose a question to those who are familiar with Bulgarian uniforms from the '70s.

Summer shirts such as the one below (what exactly is its designation?) have been available in large quantities on the surplus market for some time now. Nearly all of the ones I've seen have sewn-in shoulder straps, except for this example, which I picked out of a pile of about two dozen "normal" units recently:

The shoulder seams show no sign of having been resewn, so this shirt was made without shoulder straps. The boards are buttoned-in and removable.

Who were the intended recipients of shirts like this?

    Thanks for any help!

Shoulderboards are for border guards. I have seen one with detachable red-piped blue boards also (I think state security?). The sew-in type are for regular army. Not sure of exact designation, but is second model of summer tunic and worn 1970s-80s. There is not so much infos about these uniforms.

Thanks, Klaus! You are right, there is really not that much info out there. The closest thing to a reference site I found is this Japanese collector's page, last updated almost 7 years ago:

There is a border guard uniform on there with red piped bright green shoulder boards, which I never clicked on until I saw your response!

        cheers,
        Gene

these tunics were almost always worn with open collar and are similar to a model worn from WW2 (which had no breast pockets and of different material however). There was only recently reference published on pre-1945 in Bulgarian, so I imagine this era is even less well researched! Maybe someone has illustrated uniform regulations like other East Block had? Found this link, which has some great photos of the Bulgarian Border Guards:
