List,
This is a jacket that I have in my collection. It is a very unusual waist length wind breaker, made of a sturdy khaki poplin material. This jacket comes from one of my German sources for Red Army material, but this one has us all stumped. All the buttons have been replaced with small plastic ones or braided leather buttons that appear to be Hitler Youth possibly. That aside, the interior shows two Soviet stamps and a clear 1940 date. The trivial price this item was obtained for would seem to negate a blatant fake job. Other details include keyhole buttons which are not very common on any Soviet wartime items. Large exterior and interior pockets to the lower front.
There are some pre 1941 photos showing Soviet units in the eastern Soviet Union against the Japanese that show some officers wearing some sort of jacket out of a similar material, but not enough detail is shown in any photo I can locate that would be of any help
Any Clue?
Mike
