    Gunshow Catch: Soviet Parade(?) SSh-60

I just bought this what I believe to be Parade SSh-60 of some sort, but I can't tell what the insignia is, There are the initials By so i assume it means Byellorussian.

    pics:

I'm curious, what do these markings mean?

I know 54 is the size of the helmet but what about the crossed swords and 2?

This is a Czech helmet Wz.53. Crossed Swords - marking the Czech military acceptance. Insignia is a bad copy of the Soviet badge "ВОЕННОЕ УЧИЛИЩЕ" - "military school." On helmets this badge never worn - it to be worn on the uniform. Not a very good buy, in my opinion.

I've never seen that school badge with a ring desoigned to be suspended from a ribbon (I presume). Usually they are screw-back badges.
          Thanks,

Someone made a replica of the badge, then maybe some other guy made it into an award-looking replica, wich a third guy used to make a fantasy-helmet... Either way, the badge/award must go. I just hope it´s possible, depending on how it has been fastend.

I hope you didn't pay too much for it. Mills Fleet Farm sells these Czech helmets for $20 a pop here in the Midwest US.

I wasted a good whole $45 for it.....oh well, next time I'm simply taking a picture and gonna ask you guys first. I got the fake badge off but then there was the imprint of it made from the rock hard glue the idiot used to glue it on and thats proving a lot harder to take off.

:/ Could have been worse. Depending on what the glue is, you might be able to find a solvent that will dissolve the glue and not the paint.

Anyone who has collected militaria for more than 24 hours has a similar experience.

                    We've all been there.

As long as we are comiserating about what idiots do to helmets, permit me to ask a question not too far from Col Mustard's problem with the glue mark: I have a helmet that's otherwise mint except for the fact that a low IQ dealer once stuck a price tag right smack on the front and it has left a glue stain. My inclination is to try GooGone, but I'm worried about what it might do to the paint...

There has to be a rung in hell just for idiots who stick price tags all over the place. I can't tell you the number of medals and ribbons that I've seen that were ruined by tags. And there should be a special area for the dolts who buy and apply industrial strength file folder stickers at Staples and then slap them onto documents and posters!

                      Regards

Maybe first try a touch of the Goo Gone on the interior, under one of the liner flaps, to see if it has any adverse effect on the paint?
