While I don't have enough of a documented/researched data base on MMMs to be sure, that Military Merit Medal DOES fall into what is probably the 3 November 1944 initial "long service" awards cluster range (either side of 1,5XX,XXX), for 10 to 14 years service by that time.

So chances are it belonged to a career officer of about Captain level or so.

Tell THAT from a German KVK2X or whatever!
