    A Nice Soviet Badge

    I bought this based purely on appearance. I just thought that it was a beautiful multi-piece Soviet screw back badge. It is still in its original box. It is rather large as badges go, about 3.5 cm long and 2.75 cm wide.

    I presume that it is a souvenir badge from 1959 for individuals who took part in a shooting competition sponsored by the Soviet Army.

    Sorry for the dust on the badge!
    I really should have cleaned it and then posted photos.

    It is a very nice, and pretty hard to find badge. Can we see the back, please, when you have a moment?
    Thanks,

      Hi Eric....
      Certainly,I'll try to get a good shot of the back.
      There are no manufacturer markings, and the target piece on the obverse is fastened by four small prongs. It has a large screw plate.

          The central part of the badge shows the Red Army former infantry sign.
          I don't think this badge related with shooting competition, just a present ("In memory...) to foreign somebody from Soviet Army.

            That is an excellent point, KRKKA !
            That had not occurred to me, I'm sorry to say.

              A good friend has just informed me that this badge is in Avers.
              I cannot find my copy of Avers at the moment (I am still trying to get my books organized), but he stated that it was part of a series of competition badges that were awarded until 1968. This badge was for marksmanship.

                  Nice job Greif!
                  I think the different colors may indicate different grades (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
                  Thanks,

                    I see 4 types of badges here:
                    - red, with "Champion" inscription;
                    - blue, with "II place";
                    - green, with "III place";
                    - red, "In memory. From the Soviet Army" ( for the foreign participants).

                      This has turned out to be a lot more interesting than I originally thought!
                      But then, I' easily entertained!

                      Seriously, my sincere thanks for your input.
