    Order red banner

I would appreciate some opinions on this medal which I believe to be a fake. Serial number is in the screw back range.

        Hi

The low number does not mean that the banner is fake .

The order looks original for me.
It could be a duplicate of the lost award.

Harvey looks good to me as well.
The serial number falls into the range of serial numbered ORB awarded during early to mid 1942.

                Good catch

I agree with your 1942 date but those were the screw backs. I wish I knew a way to determine if mine is in fact a reissue of a screwback. If it is a reissue of a screwback I wonder why they would not have used another screwback instead of putting a low serial number on a 1943 five sided suspension?

Harvey good point. I forgot that the 5 sided suspensions and this type 3 USSR version was not out until after June 1943. Serial Number range was from about 84,000 thru 185,000.

One note ... there is mention that a few Type 3 RSFSR Red Banners could have been issued with the 5 sided suspension as replacements for the 2nd Type Screw back RSFSR versions and that the serial number of the replacements were the same as the original. These are very rare however.

I'm not sure if the same analogy is applicable to the USSR Red Banners or not. Maybe someone of better knowledge can answer that.

I have a red banner five sided suspension with a lower number than your one,"4 digit" was told it would have been a replacement piece. My one could not be fully researched as there is no full records before 1941, it was awarded in 1939.

                          Here is a link...

I bumped into this issue over a year ago. I posted on a different forum and the answer I got back was this:
[Below are cut and pasted excerpts from the thread]

-'It is so-called redelivery (перевыдача / perevydacha).
The award with such number in first has been presented with screw, but after change of rules of carrying and transition to pendant (in 19 June 1943), to some holders (for example: to participants of Parade of the Victory and some regular officers etc.) old awards have been replaced with the such.'

-'Stamped numbers happen only on duplicates. Duplicates are the awards which have been given out instead of lost.

Sometimes on duplicates there is engraved number, but it, usually, is supplemented with the engraved inscription "Дубликат" (Duplicate), or simply letter "Д".

I think that this award was never lost. It has been replaced to correspond to rules of carrying of awards.'

-'Not all fighters of Red Army became participants of the Victory Parade. Some of them have no place on the Red square (approx. 11 mln.) In my opinion, there is no rewarding immediately during Parade. Replacement has been made beforehand. Bearing of awards of the old (screw) types did not correspond to currently in force army regulations. It is bad, when on the main parade of the country, epoch all soldiers are dressed in the different uniform (one in old-fashioned, others - in new, the third - in quilted jackets and leg-wrappings) and wearing different types of same orders. All should be IDENTICAL as a single powerful concentrated force!'

Here is the link, I hope it helps
