IMHO it looks very brown and civilian. Still useful though.

I have one like that for real cold. Rabbit fur, very neat and useful, but definitely civilian one. These are sold in many European towns (especially eastern, like Berlin, Praga, Warszawa...) with all kinds of soviet badges as "officer" variants, but they are not military.

Around here they sell white and pink(!) ones as well. While the white ones are cute when worn by girls, the pink ones are just horrible.

Here is the standard (eBay, but sometimes also applicable on "dealers") marketing flowchart.

Is it from Russia? -> Then it is a rare Soviet Military item.
Is it a (1980s) Russian/Soviet military item (for real)? -> Then it is a rare KGB or WW2 item.
Is it a visor cap with a badge? -> Then it is for a Soviet general.
Is it white or black? -> Then it is rare Soviet Submarine Navy item.
Is it actually related to submarines? -> Then it is Hunt for Red October era.
Is it a nicknack with a pin on the back? -> Then it is a rare Soviet order or possibly medal.
Is it a nicknack with a pin on the back and Lenin in front? -> Then it is the Order of Lenin.

                    Merry Christmas everyone

excellent, this was a $5 thrift store find.

Daughter fell in love with it, the marking had me curious.

I would still call it a good price for a warm winter headgear!
