Russian 1st Chechen War Uniform as worn by 34th OBRON GSN troops, with:

Unknown model Urban SMK Winter Jacket
Nonmatching unknown model Urban SMK Winter Pants (Possibly made by Gran)
    Unknown model Body Armor
    Vera-M Vest in KKO Camo
    Maroon Beret
    Unknown model SMK Backpack
    SMK Plash Palatka (rolled)

Reference photo, a member on another forum said this about it: It's "Werewolf" - 34th OBRON GSN. I think this photo was made in December 95 in Khankala. Igor' Gurov (KIA 06/03/96 HoR posthumously) is still alive on it.

I'd like to ask that nobody reposts these 2 photos on Redalliance forum, as there is a rule there that the Maroon Beret is not to be worn in photos, I uploaded photos without wearing the beret there, so please keep this in mind, thanks.

    Cheers,
    Michel

forgive my ignorance, but what is the big no-no of wearing the maroon beret?

      Comment

Well on the Redalliance forum it is controversial to wear, as years ago the forum admins were asked by a Vityaz member to not wear the beret in photos, so that people can't represent themselves as a person that either earned the beret by the very difficult trials for it, or by bleeding/dieing for the country to earn it.
So then they created that rule, I have no intention whatsoever to present myself as someone that earned the beret, but instead I do want to show this impression in the correct way, so I figured I'd just not show it worn where it's controversial

Michel - Thanks for the additional photos to your thread...much appreciated.

Do you by chance know the time period of the MOL vest you are wearing in the photo?

As for the VSR 6Sh92 Vest, can there be other frontal ammo pouches added onto the vest?

And a very good reference photo...

I like the blue tennis show at post #266. I really think you should publish a book of your collection.

Thanks, you're both very welcome, as for the answers, I don't know when exactly the MOL vest was made, could be anytime in the war from 91-95.

The 6Sh92 is a fixed pouch type vest, only pouches can be added to the belt, and the backpack is detachable. This vest is from 2000, though these are still used in several camo patterns, alongside more modern rigs like the 6Sh112 Vest.

And about a book, I don't know if I will actually have the possibility to do so, as I'm also quite busy with work, and atedious thing like making a book costs quite a bit of time and also money I think, and I'd rather buy more gear haha

The GRU impression is something which I wanted to make for quite a while already, but I couldn't find the 6Sh for the right price, if I had the goggles, I would have loved to have added those like one of the guys in the photo, total incognito mode!
I have another Georgian war impression on the way, only waiting for the vest now, even when these are portraying guys from 2008, the gear is all quite old style, somehow I like that.

                Cheers,
                Michel

1 More 2008 Georgian War impression, this time of the Vostok Battalion, which were Chechens that defected to fight with the Russians.

                  Gear:
                  Berezka KZM type Uniform
                  Unknown Brand Woodland Vest
                  Flora M2 Cap

Most of those guys didn't wear caps or whatever actually, but I had this laying around, might as well add it then

                  Cheers,
                  Michel

                    I bought yet another super-helmet, the ZSh1-2 !
This is basically a helmet in the same shape as the Maska, but then made of kevlar, and the liner of the ZSh1 helmet
This visor model can also be found on very few late series Maska helmets.

I'll weigh this helmet a bit later today.

                    Cheers,
                    Michel

it will be interesting to read your follow up post about the helmet. :-)

I weighed the helmet at 3,6 kilos, I didn't weigh it without the visor, as I don't exactly know if the visor will go back on well, as it has a different system than the other visored helmets.

Also, I have acquired yet another armor, a strange one at that, it's a Kora-1 made of denim fabric, with soft armor elements sealed in plastic, and 3 thin metal or ceramic plates per side, sealed inside the soft armor.

And I finished up this Serbian PJP impression, from the Kosovo War, with:

Blue M93 camouflage Cap, Shirt, Pants and Parka
                        Probably modified Police Tactical vest
Black Utility Belt with Handcuff Pouch
                        Police and PJP Shoulder Patches

                        Cheers,
                        Michel

Michel - thanks for the update post.

Is the denim fabric vest home made or factory made?

The vest is factory made, though I haven't found any markings on the vest cover, only on the armor.
But I've seen 3 of such vests already, even 1 with red velcro for some reason!
Maybe these were made to be conceilable and "fashionable", i have no idea why they would use denim otherwise haha
