    Soviet Fur Hat help

This fur hat has the avility to fold down with two hook and eye attachments to the front flap. The top is maroon with black piping. I cannot read any of the internal markings.

I would appreciate any help on the era of this cap.

    Thank you,
    Bob Hritz

Pahapka, I think is the term for it. Looks like there was a Naval badge on it at one time.
The more knowledgable than I will chime in shortly, I hope.
        Thanks,

From the photo it appears to be a papakha as worn by units of the Don Cossacks. I cannot see the markings with enough clarity to get an idea of the date of production.

During the Second World War there were Cossack units, including Don Cossacks, who served with the German army, although most cossacks remained loyal and served in the Red Army.

Does anybody has a list of the colours to the different Cosak Units.
Are the're any Rank related ones? I had some diferent ones and some used different designs, like double braided Crosses.

Bob's hat isn't cosak units related.

                  Any further thoughts on it?

It certainly looks Soviet from the photos.

It looks like "finka" fur hat for me.

I have never heard of or seen a "Finka" hat with a contrasting color top and ornamentation. Additionally, I the Finka hats I have seen are, at least to me, more "rounded" in shape as compared to the cap posted by Bob.

I'm still going with a Cossack unit cap, myself.

This cap is very close to "finka" type.
Such type of hats but different colors were used in soviet militsia (prewar and wartime)

Close but not the same. It is tall and flat on top like a Cossak Pahapka, but has drop sides like the Finka. I have never seen this arrangement before. All finka I have ever seen were round on top and smaller proportioned even than an Ushanka in the same hat size.

I agree with you - the represented item looks unusual biger than "finka".
Cossak hat is "papakha" (not "Pahapka")
This azeri word ("papakh") comes to russians from Caucasus, as another azeri word "bashlig" - turns in russian to "bashlik".
