The first photo he is wearing the MHSZ rifle shooting badge. He would have been awarded it for excelence in rifle shooting. The other badge in the photo I have never seen before, but it looks to be a sports badge as well. The other badges in the other photos are the DISZ badges. You should find these badges easily in the boholpiacs

The badge to the left (wearer's right) in the second photo in post #2 appears to be a Soviet VLKSM (Kommsomol) membership badge from the '40's or early '50's. The DISZ was modeled on the VLKSM and I believe joint membership was possible (especially as a result of the various joint youth festivals). I've attached a small image for comparison.

            Hello Greg,

I don't know that there was a VLKSM in Hungary.

After checking the award you show, I think you are right that it looks to be a VLKSM.

They would not have had the VLKSM in Hungary as they already had the DISZ- I'm thinking your grandfather may have traveled to the USSR to one of the many youth festivals sponsored by the VLKSM. These festivals were usually attended by members of the equivalent youth organizations of the other Warsaw Pact countries and sometimes co-sponsored by them. The second photo in your post #6 is a political officer's badge and much larger than the badge your grandfather is wearing.
